Characteristic Angles in the Wetting of a Wedge-Shaped Region

چکیده
The shape of a liquid surface bounded by an acute or obtuse wedge is considered by using classical analysis methods. For acute wedges the two principal curvatures are of the order of the (fixed) mean curvature. But for obtuse wedges, the principal curvatures both diverge as the vertex is approached. The power-law divergence becomes stronger with increasing opening angle. Possible implications of this contrasting behavior are suggested. PACS: 68.03.Cd — Surface tension and related phenomena

Dynamics of driven three-dimensional thin films: From hydrophilic to superhydrophobic regimes
We study the forced displacement of a thin film of fluid in contact with vertical and inclined substrates of different wetting properties, that range from hydrophilic to hydrophobic, using the lattice-Boltzmann method. We study the stability and pattern formation of the contact line in the hydrophilic and superhydrophobic regimes, which correspond to wedge-shaped and nose-shaped fronts, respect...

Preliminary results of a research on the effects of microstructure and surface roughness of a hypoeutectic cast iron on its wetting angle are presented in this article. For this purpose, molten cast iron was solidified at different cooling rates to produce two samples of the same composition, i.e. a gray cast iron with A type flake graphite and a white cast iron. Two samples were then prepared ...
متن کاملFingering phenomena for driven coating films
A theoretical and numerical model is formulated to describe the instability and the long-time evolution of both gravity-driven and surface-shear-stress-driven thin coating films. A single evolution equation, of higher-order diffusive type, models the flow for either problem. It is derived using the lubrication approximation. For partially wetting systems, the effect of finite contact angle is i...
متن کاملDetermination of an Effective Wedge Angle by Combination of Two Arbitrary Universal Wedge Fields in Radiation Therapy of Cancer Patients with Megavoltage Photon Beams.
Introduction: Wedge filters are commonly used in radiation oncology for eliminating hot spots and creating a uniform dose distribution in optimizing isodose curves in the target volume for clinical aspects. These are some limited standard physical wedges (15°, 30°, 45°, 60°), or creating an arbitrary wedge angle, like motorized wedge or dynamic wedge, ... The new formulation is...
متن کاملNumerical simulation research on the optimization for blade shape of rotational supercavitating
Rotational Supercavitating Evaporator (RSCE) has been proposed as a new technology for seawater desalination. However, it lacks systematic researches on the blade shape of RSCE. In this paper, numerical simulations were conducted on the supercavities formed behind two-dimensional (2D) wedge-shaped cavitators of the RSCE. The cavitating flows around the 2D wedge-shaped cavitators with several ce...
